Career Change Coach & Life Designer

Me in eight words:
Freestyler | Poet | World traveller | Mum + Granny | Optimist | Sky gazer | Friend | Beach walker

Career so far…
I’m a serial career-changer and have now made this my life’s work.

I’ve worked in universities in the UK and Dubai, first as a lecturer then as a career consultant.

I’m now brimming with excitement as I launch 100% of my efforts into my new career change practice – Freestyle Careers – where my core focus now is helping my clients build joyful and purposeful futures that bring them alive, and which they actually want to live.

Literature and a love of reading and writing remain very dear to me. And for four years I relished the role of Head of Programming for the multi award-winning Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, which gave me fantastic opportunities to curate sessions for such diverse writers as Lionel Shriver, Lemn Sissay, Ben Okri, David Mitchell, Margaret Atwood and Jeremy Paxman. Big learning!

Living a values-driven life is what I’m all about, which is why I’m also running a year-long life design project called Freestyle 61. This is a voyage of discovery – as I evolve a process to manage life transitions – through conscious choice, daring to dream, experiment, and then creating the reality. Life and book in progress!

I love walking in wide, open spaces, sky gazing and feeling the wonder of our natural world. Road-trips, festivals and live events all give me a real buzz. Colour, words and good food, wine and company all bring me joy.

As a mother and grandmother, I relish this most precious of connections, the deep bonds of shared history and excitement for the future.

My vitality and love of life seems to grow with each decade.

I believe we all have many wonderful lives within in us and I’m working hard to fit all mine in!

My love of literature began with a BA in English from the University of Exeter, followed a decade later by an MPhil in English, Education and Cultural Studies and a PG Dip in Applied Linguistics. I also have a PGCE in English and EFL.

Shifting into careers work, I have a PG Dip in Adult Guidance, training in Co-Active Coaching and a license to deliver the Fireworks Career Change programme.
